The Education Department comprises Teacher Education and Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. TheÌý Education Department is located in the Olympia Lowe and Harrison HPER Complex.

At the undergraduate level, theÌýEducation Department offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Early Childhood Education. The Early Childhood Education degree is not designed for school-based early childhood education and does not lead to licensure.

Through the coordination of the Mississippi Department of Education, the Education DepartmentÌýoversees the secondary B.S. degree programs in Health Physical Education and Recreation, Science Education, Mathematics Education, Vocal Keyboard and Instrumental Music Education, English Education, and Social Science Education. The Secondary Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Program offers two-degree options. A teaching concentration is offered for persons interested in obtaining a license to teach at the K-12 levels and a non-teaching concentration that does not lead to licensure is offered for persons interested in careers in federal, state, and local parks and recreation agencies; commercial recreation agencies; campus recreation; military recreation; and voluntary community agencies.

The Education Department offers the Master of Arts in Teaching Program (MAT) with an emphasis in Elementary Education (4-8), Social Sciences, Science, Math, Music, English, andÌýPhysical Education. Students may receive alternate route "A" certification in any of the content areas in which alternate route licenses are offered in the State of Mississippi. The Education Department also offers a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration. Students have the option to choose from three concentrations: International Sport, Intercollegiate Sport, and Sport Leadership.
