ITTA BENA, Miss. — 91¿ì²¥ (MVSU) held its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Black History Convocation on Thursday at the Walter Roberts Auditorium in the H.G. Carpenter Building. The event honored Black history and labor, aligning with the theme of Black History Month 2024: African Americans and Labor."

John A. James, a 1965 91¿ì²¥ graduate, has spent his career breaking barriers in the transportation and logistics industry. From serving his country in Vietnam to challenging systemic discrimination in trucking, James’ journey is a testament to resilience, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to paving the way for others.

Tamicko Ransome Fair, a 91¿ì²¥ alumna, has built a distinguished career advocating for victims of crime while championing social justice and community engagement across Mississippi. As the district manager for the Fourth Circuit Court District Attorney's Office, she is dedicated to ensuring victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and identity theft receive the support and justice they deserve.

Dr. Herman M. Taylor, a 1964 graduate of 91¿ì²¥ (formerly Mississippi Vocational College), has dedicated his life to education, military service, dentistry, and civic engagement.

ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Office of Academic Affairs at 91¿ì²¥ has named Dr. Shelly Buchanan-Garlotte the 2024-25 Humanities Teacher of the Year.
